What happens if an implant fails or a problem occurs later on?
Although implant success rates are very high, no surgical procedure, dental or medical is 100% successful. If an implant does not take, we normally allow healing and then discuss replacement or alternative options with you. We also place great emphasis on long-term maintenance and follow-up so that any issues are picked up and managed as early as possible. People who have problems soon after year 1, have often chosen to NOT have regular checkups and prevention.
Will I be left with a visible gap during implant treatment?
In many cases we can provide temporary teeth, either fixed to the implant or on a carefully designed temporary bridge or denture, so that you are not left with obvious gaps while things are healing. Whether this is suitable for you depends on your bite, bone levels and the position of the missing teeth – all of which are assessed at your initial visit.
Do I always need bone grafting for implants if I live in the Leeds or Bradford area?
