Dr Kilcoyne’s specialist expertise and prize-winning practice banner

If you have specific or unusual needs, a complex situation, a cosmetic challenge or you are simply unsure what your options are, Dr Kilcoyne’s extensive knowledge, evidence-based research or specialist expertise, can help you make the best of any situation – whether that means extra time and care if you are anxious, or advanced solutions planned and delivered in quality ways that suit you best.

Dr Kilcoyne doesn’t just enjoy the technical side of advanced dentistry, such as the high-tech materials and new techniques he learns about from visiting university dental schools internationally. He genuinely loves how this knowledge can be applied, to improve people’s health and self-confidence, especially for those who have been unhappy with their mouths and smiles for years. Many new patients arrive saying they “hate dentists”, when what they really feel is anxiety, embarrassment or worry about costs and the unknown. Our aim is to listen, not judge, and to plan care that is realistic and kind. Over time, some of our most nervous patients become surprisingly keen on looking after their teeth – because they discover that dental health is a form of dental wealth. Wherever you are starting from, we can journey with you and support you as you move towards a healthier, more confident smile for life. We know this, because we deliver this daily, but YOU have got to want it also. Is the time right for you, to take that next step with us?

Real example – twisted teeth transformed without braces

Here is just one example of how Dr Kilcoyne improved a patient's smile where the teeth were very twisted and out of line. As a working adult, she did not want to wear braces – yet the solution below was provided in as little as two weeks, comfortably and without extractions or root canal treatment (as she had previously been offered).

BMJ letter – calling for better integration of dental and medical care to protect patients’ health.

In England, tooth decay has sadly been a leading reason for young children being admitted to hospital. Dr Kilcoyne has been one of many voices calling for better prevention, education and support centrally, while continuing to provide high-standard private care locally.

If you would like to explore more detail about his public-interest work and NHS dentistry concerns, you can read some of the external coverage here:

Frequently asked questions

FAQs about seeing a Specialist & visiting SmileSpecialist®

In the UK, “Specialist” has a very specific meaning. A GDC-registered Specialist in Prosthodontics has completed additional formal training and examination beyond general dentistry and is officially recognised on the specialist register.

Prosthodontics covers rebuilding and replacing teeth – crowns, bridges, veneers, implants, precision dentures, complex bite problems and full-mouth reconstructions. It combines function, strength and aesthetics to restore your mouth as a whole, not just one tooth at a time.

Not necessarily. Planning and doing it right first time is often better value than having cheaper, short-term work that fails and needs replacing sooner.

As a Specialist, Dr Kilcoyne aims for the optimum balance of quality, longevity and cost. Our fees reflect the time, experience and materials involved, but are still very reasonable compared to many high-end clinics, especially for the level of expertise involved.

You can see typical guide fees on our Prices page and check our Special Offers for package savings.

We are very happy to receive referrals from dentists across the UK, especially for complex or specialist cases. However, if this is impractical or you do not currently have a dentist, you can often contact us directly as a self-referral, where appropriate.

Simply call 01535 644005 or use the Make Appointment link so we can guide you.

Yes. Many of our patients have had difficult experiences elsewhere or feel embarrassed about their teeth. We never judge – our role is to help you improve things, step by step.

We can allow extra time, explain options clearly, and plan treatment in stages so you stay in control. Our aim is a calm, respectful environment where you feel listened to and supported, not rushed.

Depending on your situation and after a full examination, options may include:

  • Same-day tooth whitening / bleaching with specialist systems and protocols.
  • Immediate implant placement or mini-implants in suitable cases to stabilise dentures.
  • Same-day bonding or limited cosmetic reshaping to improve chipped or uneven edges.

The exact possibilities depend on your dental health, bone levels and bite. This is why a detailed specialist consultation is so important before promising any “quick fix”.

When carried out by a properly qualified and GDC-registered dental professional after a full examination, modern tooth whitening and cosmetic treatments are safe and well-researched.

Problems often arise when people are treated by non-dental providers or use unregulated internet products that are too strong, too acidic or contaminated. At SmileSpecialist® we only use materials and techniques that meet UK and EU regulations and have a strong scientific track-record.

For more detail on whitening, see our dedicated page: Tooth Whitening & Tooth Bleaching .

As a Specialist in Prosthodontics, Dr Kilcoyne is trained to look at the whole mouth – bone, gums, bite, existing restorations and long-term function – not just the implant itself.

Implants and mini-implants can:

  • Replace single missing teeth or multiple teeth.
  • Stabilise loose dentures, often avoiding the need for extensive grafting.
  • Form part of a larger “smile makeover” or bite reconstruction.

For more information see Tooth Implants & Mini-implants .

We love helping people feel confident about their smiles, but our philosophy is always: long-term health first, function second, cosmetics integrated with both.

Prevention is cheaper and better than cure – that includes preventing people making poor choices based on price alone. We would rather plan carefully and preserve as much tooth as possible than chase quick but destructive cosmetic fixes.

As we often say, the best filling or crown is healthy tooth. Our job is to help you get as close to that as possible, and then keep it that way.
